จักษุแพทย์เฉพาะทางศัลยกรรมตกแต่งและเสริมสร้างรอบดวงตา (Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon)

ผศ.พญ.พิมพ์ขวัญ จารุอำพรพรรณ ได้รับพระราชทานทุนเล่าเรียนหลวงระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย ในสาขาวิทยาศาสตร์-คณิตศาสตร์ เพื่อศึกษาต่อที่ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยเลือกเดินตามความฝันในสายวิชาชีพแพทย์

ระบบการเรียนแพทยศาสตร์ในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกาแตกต่างจากประเทศไทย โดยผู้ที่จะเข้าศึกษาในคณะแพทยศาสตร์จำเป็นต้องสำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีก่อน คุณหมอจึงเลือกศึกษาต่อด้านชีวเคมี (Biochemistry) ที่มหาวิทยาลัยฮาร์วาร์ด (Harvard University) ก่อนจะสอบเข้าเรียนแพทยศาสตร์ที่ Vanderbilt School of Medicine ใช้เวลาศึกษารวมทั้งสิ้น 8 ปี

หลังสำเร็จการศึกษาระดับแพทยศาสตร์บัณฑิต คุณหมอได้มุ่งมั่นศึกษาต่อในสาขาจักษุวิทยาซึ่งถือเป็นสาขาที่มีการแข่งขันสูงทั้งในประเทศไทยและในสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยได้รับคัดเลือกให้เข้ารับการฝึกอบรมแพทย์ประจำบ้านด้านจักษุวิทยา (Ophthalmology Residency) ณ University of Wisconsin–Madison ใช้ระยะเวลาอบรม 3 ปี

ต่อมา คุณหมอได้สานต่อความสนใจเฉพาะทางด้านโรคเบ้าตา เปลือกตา และระบบท่อน้ำตา โดยสมัครเข้าอบรมในสาขาศัลยกรรมจักษุตกแต่งและเสริมสร้าง (Oculofacial Plastic Surgery) ณ สถาบัน Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan–Ann Arbor ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในสถาบันชั้นนำของประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ใช้เวลาอบรมทั้งสิ้น 2 ปี

ตลอดระยะเวลาในต่างประเทศ คุณหมอได้สั่งสมประสบการณ์ทางคลินิกและทักษะด้านการผ่าตัดที่ซับซ้อนอย่างลึกซึ้ง ก่อนเดินทางกลับมาทำงานที่ประเทศไทย โดย ณ ปัจจุบันดำรงตำแหน่ง ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ และหัวหน้าหน่วยศัลยกรรมจักษุตกแต่งและเสริมสร้าง ภาควิชาจักษุวิทยา คณะแพทยศาสตร์ศิริราชพยาบาล

นอกจากนี้ คุณหมอพิมพ์ขวัญยังเป็น จักษุแพทย์เพียงท่านเดียวที่ปฏิบัติงานอยู่ในประเทศไทย ที่สอบผ่านการรับรองวุฒิบัตรทั้ง American Board of Ophthalmology และ American Board Subspecialty in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) จากประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา อันเป็นเกณฑ์มาตรฐานระดับนานาชาติที่มีผู้สอบผ่านเพียงส่วนน้อยทั่วโลก
